Course Offerings & Progressive Curriculum


Classes generally meet once a week and run continually throughout the academic year organized by terms running approximately 12 weeks in length. Our curriculum and projects are designed to present a progressing level of skill and challenge so that students can gain the most out of our program. Our small class size and individualized instruction allows you to join at any time. Students are expected to stay in each level for four semesters, which is one calendar year. While projects are never repeated, consistent registration and attendance in multiple class terms allows students to learn, reinforce, and master the concepts taught in the class before advancing to the next level.

PreSchool Monart 3-4
A class for 3 and 4 year olds that encourages visual perception and eye hand coordination skills. Students will learn the visual recognition of the 5 Elements of Shape and how to use them in the recognition of the Alphabet, the Numbering system, the Drawing of their own name, and simplistic drawings of creatures from nature. Games that incorporate the use of crafts, music, and movement will teach proficiency in following directions and achieving pre-drawing and reading readiness skills.

Getting Ready I 4-6
An introduction to representational drawing geared to the attention span and motor coordination of a 4 and 5 year old. Students work on their ability to recognize the elements of shape and combine them in drawing the creatures from nature and objects from their world.

Getting Ready II 4-6
A class for 4-6 year olds who have mastered the ability to recognize the elements of shape and have achieved a skill level that allows them to make independent choices in composition and background ideas. Geared for the student who has learned to focus and concentrate for the one hour class, without an undue need for individual attention.

Sculpting with Polymer clay for kids 5+
In this class students will work with Sculpey, Fimo and Model magic to learn the basics of 3D sculpting. Projects will be small and achievable, to allow our young friends success as create. This course will cover all the stages from planning, to sculpting, baking, panting and glazing This class is different from ceramics, as the clay used, are either air dried or oven baked. They can take home their sculptures the same day or the following week. All supplies are provided at Monart. No prior training needed.

Basic Drawing I 6-8
An introduction to representational drawing geared to the attention span and motor coordination of a 6 and 7 year old. Students quickly learn to recognize the elements of shape and are introduced to various choices of how to interpret the lesson, in their own creative rendering of the subject and background.

Basic Drawing II 6-8
A class for 6-8 year olds who have mastered the ability to make independent choices in the interpretation of the lesson, show a confidence in their drawing skills, and can color in with control. Geared for the student who has learned to focus and concentrate for the one hour class and shows the ability to put effort into their work.

Computer and 3D Printing Level I 6-8
This is the introductory course for our computer curriculum and is a pre-requisite for higher level courses. All computer students must take this course or meet with the teacher to prove they have the skills necessary to move to the next level. Over the course of the 12-week term, students in this course will master digital illustration, photo manipulation/photoshop/editing, graphic design skills, and basic 3D sculpting and printing skills, all of which form the foundation for a progressive education in animation and game design.

Pottery: Hand and Wheel work 6+
Students will do both hand building projects as well as learning the basics of the pottery wheel. Additionally they will learn screening techniques, painting techniques and more. Any object made by students will take 3 weeks to dry before the first bisque firing. After this they will paint their pieces, which will be glazed. This process can take one to two classes. Once dry it will be fired a second and final time. There are no pre requisites. Any skill level is welcome.

Manga Animation Drawing - Advanced 6+
Manga art is incorporated in modern day by manga comics, gaming concepts, animations and more. From concept to color to completion. This course will incorporate a brief history of manga, study of manga masters, exercises in drawing and coloring. The course will teach students how to create their own original characters, and start laying out the foundation for a comic storyline. Must have a good grasp on face and body proportions.

FASHION DESIGN - Basics 6+
No pre-requisites required. This is an ideal sewing class for our young ones. It will start them on basic projects such as pillows, bags, organizers, quilts etc. All fabric, accessories and hardware will be provided by Monart. Each project will run for a different duration of time based on the pace of the students. Emphasis will be placed on hand sewing, and eventually to the sewing machine.

Comic Book Creation 6+
Students in this class will cater to their creative-writing side and tell stories with pictures and words in a classic comic book format. Students will learn to structure and draw characters from every angle, with various emotions, and in the middle of different actions, their background, and the narrative (plot, theme, and resolution). Students in this course will structure their stories in a comic book format.

Painting Basics 6+
This class targets young artist that want to understand how to work with liquid media such as Tempera, Watercolor, Acrylic etc. They will get an understanding of bases, techniques and styles. As this is a basics course, students can expect to do exercises that will be used to paint compositions. Each class will he an hour and half long, once a week. All materials will be provided by Monart.

Oil Painting I 7-18
Students will be completing an average of 3-4 canvases during the course of this term. Given the drying time required for each layer, students will start two canvases at a time. Topics will vary from still life to landscapes in our introductory term. There are no pre requisites. All skill levels are welcome to join.

Game Design and 3D Printing 7-18
This course teaches advanced digital illustration techniques, how to create 3D sculptures out of virtual clay, computer animation, and video game design. Prerequisites for this course: Computer and 3D Printing Level I or instructor and director approval.

Drawing Fundamentals 8-12
An introduction to representational drawing geared to the attention span and motor coordination of an 8 to 12 year old. Students will learn the Elements of Shape and how to use them in creating drawings from a variety of realistic, abstract, and expressionistic styles. Lessons will introduce them to inspirations from 2Dimensional graphic materials, 3Dimensional objects, the human form, perspective, and proportion.

Advanced Art 8-12
This course will develop further upon the basic principles of art, design, and the 5 basic elements shape with emphasis on mastering advanced art techniques. Advanced art is the expansion of studying various art media and skill, such as drawing, painting, clay sculpting, collage, and printmaking. This course is the entry level for students that have achieved a high level of workmanship of focus and dedication. Pre-requisites: By recommendation of previous art teacher.
Students should check for teacher recommendation before signing on for this class.

Graphites & Life Drawing 8 - Adult
The graphite class is the study of how light affect objects. Exercises in this class will focus on light sources, gradients, shadow etc. Students will work on solely graphites during this course. There will be that will be a new series of projects. This course is for all skill levels. It is highly recommended class for students in the process of portfolio creation and/ or auditions for middle school, high school or colleges .

Drawing Fundamental II 8-12
This course advanced the Drawing Fundamental student to the next level. Students are expected to work on more accelerated projects.

Mechanical Drawing 8-18
This course will teach how to draw a variety of machines, from cars, planes, motorbikes to robots etc.

FASHION - Senior Couture 9 - Adult
Students will work on making a fashion sketch of the garment we will create. Garments examples are: dresses, shirts, pants, skirts etc. Each project is anticipated to take multiple sessions. Fabric, accessories and hardware will be provided by Monart. Drafting and/ or working with patterns will additionally be a part of this course. Cutting and sewing will be done by students. This is an ideal course for adults as well that want to understand garment construction. Pre-requisites: Must know how to hand sew. Must know how to sew on a sewing machine. Should be familiar of basic fabric projects.

Graphites with emphasis on human body 9 - Adult
This class will target the human body. Eyes, nose, mouth, face, hair, torso, gesture drawing, hands, feet etc. It is highly recommended for students that wish to learn how to create depth, dimension, texture, and a high level of realism. It is also recommended for students working on portfolio preparation for high school, college etc. All supplies are provided by Monart.

Calligraphy 9 - Adult
This class is a summer special class. For this one term, come and learn the fundamentals of calligraphy. Nibs, ink, hand grips etc. We intend this class for 10 years and older.

Portfolio Development & Independent Art 13+
To attend this class you do not need any pre-requisites. You can do our set art project or bring in a project that you have been working on and would like some quiet time to work on at the studio. Material will be provided at the studio.

Studio Art 1 13+
This class needs for the parent to come to the studio and be approved by the teacher to allow admitance. This is an ideal class for students that are constructing a portfolio, or are working on personal projects. Students can pace themselves to their comfort. All supplies are provided by Monart.
